What do I get for my money?

Your contract will spell out the primary details of what you get for your money, including any desired extras.  However, the time spent entertaining at your event is only a fraction of what you will be receiving.  Here is a partial list of where your money goes:

  • Before you even contact us (highlighting many differences between a professional and an amateur):
    • Professional-only music service subscriptions (not available to amateurs);
    • Time spent seeking out and becoming familiar with current popular music as well as classic tunes;
    • Acquisition and maintenance of professional sound equipment, lighting, etc.;
    • Continuing education, training, conferences, etc. to maintain and improve skills;
    • Active membership in professional disk jockey associations;
    • Insurance premiums (amateurs are rarely insured);
    • Purchase and care of tuxedo and other professional attire; and
    • Maintenance of vehicle used to travel to and from your event.
  • Before the event:
    • Event planning and coordination (including song lists, itinerary, etc.);
    • Site visit (to ensure that there are no surprises on the day of the event);
    • Acquisition of additional music requested for your event (as needed); and
    • Any other activities required to prepare for your event.
  • Immediately prior to the event:
    • Travel to the event location;
    • Set up and test equipment as required; and
    • Coordinate any last-minute details as needed.
  • During the event:
    • The services of a professional disk jockey and/or master of ceremonies;
    • Coordination with others at the event, as needed;
    • The use of professional sound equipment;
    • Access to Family DJ's entire music library;
    • Dance floor or other lighting;
    • Dance instruction or other interactive entertainment; and
    • Other options, as specified in the contract.
  • Immediately after the event:
    • Wrap up any last-minute details as needed;
    • Take down all equipment; and
    • Travel from the event.
  • After the event:
    • Follow up to ensure that there were no other issues or questions.

As you can see, there's a lot more to being a professional disk jockey than showing up and playing some tunes.  Family DJ invests a lot of time and money to help ensure that your event is everything you want it to be.
