Family-friendly by default. Clean music is what we specialize in — chosen to suit every age in the room, with explicit versions only if you specifically ask.

No hidden fees. Rates are published openly and quotes are itemized up front.
Meet Carl Bohman
I started DJing as a teenager — before I could even drive — for church youth dances. I was given a lot of freedom behind the decks, but I also understood the standards I was expected to keep. That early lesson — that you can keep a room full of energy without ever crossing a line — has shaped how I work ever since.
I founded Family DJ in 2011, and the idea came from the other side of the dance floor. I was at my oldest daughter’s first elementary-school dance, watching the kids run around to the music like every other parent, when I noticed the DJ making song choices I wouldn’t have made at a middle-school dance — let alone an elementary one. I mentioned to a PTA officer, almost offhand, that I had DJ experience and would be glad to help out sometime. He practically begged me to do the next one.
That stuck with me. If a PTA had this much trouble finding a DJ they could trust with a room full of kids, then so did everyone else. I named the business Family DJ because it says exactly what it is, right away, with no fine print — and over the years, the number of families who’ve told me they were simply relieved to find me has proven the name does its job.
More than 15 years later, I’ve DJ’d weddings, school dances, birthday parties, anniversaries, and community celebrations all across the region. The events I remember best are the ones where the grandparents and the toddlers both end up out on the dance floor at the same time — that’s what family-friendly really means to me.
I grew up in Northern Virginia and raised my older children there before moving with my wife and our younger kids to the Winchester area, which is home base today. When I’m not DJing for other families, you’ll usually find me with my own — or writing software, or volunteering at our church. Family, in every sense, is the thread that runs through all of it.
